Have you been looking for good food around campus? Well, you’ve come to the right place.  Taco El Superior is only two minutes away from APU’s main campus and I have an in-depth review for you!

Taco El Superior is a drive-thru taquería located in Azusa, California. This family business is like visiting Mexico right here in California. Taco El Superior serves authentic Mexican street tacos that are unrivaled by any other. I was able to see for myself what the restaurant’s hype was about.

The restaurant offers a variety of savory dishes: quesadillas ($3.99), tacos ($1.99), burritos ($8.99) and more, while also providing the option to choose your own meat, such as carne asada (grilled meat), pollo (chicken), birria (commonly referred to as rib meat), and more.

My favorite food item on the menu was the quesabirria and pollo (chicken) tacos, but if you’re a quesadilla lover like myself, Taco El Superior is the place to go!

When ordering a quesadilla, you have the option to choose the combo which comes with rice and beans. Some of their most popular choices include the birria fries, burritos and superior-style tacos.

I also had the opportunity to try their tacos. They are without a doubt some of the best I’ve ever had. I would give a 10/10 review on their tacos alone. Once you try one, you’ll find yourself ordering more! Their tacos are the perfect combination of soft, fresh and juicy. Even after ordering from the drive-thru, I was shocked by how fresh their food was and how much they truly lived up to their name and left an unforgettable taste.

While their tacos come with the standard meat, onion, cilantro, and lime combo, Taco El Superior truly lives up to its name of being superior because everything is incredibly fresh and tasty. The restaurant lives up to its promise of delivering a “mouthwatering culinary experience that will transport you straight to the streets of Mexico.”  Their tacos have a smokey and savory flavor that leaves you wanting more.

Something I noticed was the treat after the meal: dessert! This isn’t included in the online menu. In person, however, the restaurant offers what is known as a Piña (Pineapple) Superior dole whip dessert. A regular is $5.99 and a small is $3.59. Another treat only shown on the in-person menu is a churro, my personal favorite, for $1.99 and flan (pudding) for $3.99.

You can also look forward to their made-in-house daily beverages. Each month, they offer a new flavor. This month, it’s Agua de Jamaica. The price for a medium drink is $3.99 and $4.99 for a large.

Their drink menu isn’t one to pass up either! With the universal choice of fountain drinks, the restaurant also provides medium and large Aguas Frescas. Also, at all locations, the restaurant has now provided a drink known as the “Halloween Horchata.” A regular horchata is made out of rice, cinnamon, milk and vanilla. The “Halloween Horchata” is a regular horchata with a spooky twist colored for Halloween purposes.
