Whether you’re spending time with a special someone, hosting Galentine’s Day or showing some self-love, these treats will make for a terrific Feb. 14.

What’s the first thing you think of when Valentine’s day pops into your head? Maybe you envision a bouquet of roses or a romantic candlelit dinner, but no matter what you imagine one thing is for sure: chocolate is most definitely involved.

So, what better way to satisfy your sweet tooth than to hit up your local Trader Joe’s? Known for their affordable, festive foods and unique snacks, I knew going to Trader Joe’s to supply sweets for a taste test was the way to go. After trying them all out, it’s safe to say I made the right choice.

Though we were only able to get our hands on three Valentine’s day treats, we’re still here to report which ones were the best.  If you’re not a chocolate, I will leave you some options as well. Though I didn’t spy them on my last visit, we have fingers crossed that they’ll be restocked soon.

Belgian Chocolate Hearts ($1.99)

First up is Trader Joes’ take on the Valentine’s day classic: the chocolate candy. With everyone  on the hunt for the perfect chocolate to pair with their Valentine’s Day gifts, these chocolates face a stiff competition  with companies like Hershey’s, Godiva and Russell Stover. However, I think these chocolates held their own.

Before getting to the taste, the packaging itself is adorable. It’s cute enough to pack for an aesthetically pleasing picnic or, if you’re gifting, these Belgian hearts would look adorable in a giant teddy bear’s hand.

In terms of taste, I settled on a solid 4 out of 5  stars. These chocolates were similar to Lindt’s Lindor Truffles because of their hard outer shell and smooth, rich middle. I was definitely impressed. They were satisfying, affordable and gave us that classic milk chocolate flavor we all associate with Valentine’s Day. The fact that they’re in the shape of the cutest little hearts is  the icing on the cake.

For the Love of Chocolate Mousse Cake ($3.99)

Speaking of cake, this chocolate mousse is one you have to try. For starters, it’s the perfect size — especially considering we won’t see any big get-togethers this year. It’s enough to feed about 35 people, so everyone can indulge without having too many leftovers.

When taking a bite, the flavor was what I expected. I wasn’t disappointed, but the cake’s slightly dry, spongy consistency reminded me of those Little Debbie Valentine’s Cakes my mom would always pack in my school lunches. But the mousse in the middle was creamy, rich and brought the cake to the next level.

All in all, I give this guy a 4.5 out of 5. Though it wasn’t restaurant level by any means, it was still impressive for a grocery store cake priced under $5. The presentation is adorable  — it’ll leave any chocolate-lover in paradise — and it’s the perfect dessert to bring to a small gathering.

Dark Chocolate Covered Marshmallows ($2.99)

Last, but certainly not least, the dark chocolate covered marshmallows were surprisingly the winners of the taste test. The dark chocolate was delicious and crunchy on the outside, while the marshmallow was gooey and sweet on the inside. The balance between consistencies and flavors couldn’t have been better, and I got chills thinking about dropping a few of these into a hot chocolate.

If you’re a s’mores lover and looking for a treat that won’t overwhelm your taste buds, these are the way to go. Like the other three, they come in the cutest packaging, are super fun, delicious and can be shared or kept all to yourself. A solid 5 out of 5  in my book.
