One of the best parts about any holiday for me has been decorating. I remember as a child sprucing up my house with my family to give the warm holiday spirit. It never mattered what holiday it was; we always went all-out. Our house had boxes of decorations for each one stuffed with fake cobwebs, orange and brown leaves, glittery snowflakes, confetti and big red hearts.

Well, now that I am in college, I could not bring all of that with me, so holidays seemed to be less exciting. Add that to a tight college budget, and the most decorating I’ll be doing is some holiday cookies.

This seemed to be a reality, until I found some awesome Pinterest DIY photos of how to decorate in small ways even when you’re on a tight budget. Take a look at these and go ahead and replicate them or even let it spark your imagination for other decorations…

A Proper Greeting

I remember during the Christmas season my freshman year, my entire hall decorated the doors with wrapping paper. I never would have thought to decorate a door for Halloween until I saw this photo. It’s such a cute way to decorate your dorm or apartment with paper, tape, paper plates and streamers.

Cans

Trick Or Treat

Grab some of the canned vegetables that your mom gave you but you know you’ll never eat, clean them out and turn them into an awesome decoration. This is a simple example and any words or images could be made with a can and a few holes. Small electric candles can be purchased at the 99 Cent Store and placed inside the tin cans to illuminate your creation.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

LanternsNo time or money for a pumpkin patch and carving? No problem! Use some old milk cartons that could easily be thrown out and turn them into jack-o’-lanterns with a black marker and a few electric candles. This not only saves money but also a lot of time. You can get as creative as you want with your faces without needing the skill of carving.
