Attending a Christian college means going to chapel and belonging to a community of believers on campus, but the fellowship does not have to stop there. The city of Azusa and surrounding towns have many churches that students are encouraged to attend on Sunday mornings. Here are a few local churches to help you get started in finding the perfect fit:

Canyon Christian Fellowship (www.go2faith.com) – 405 N Azusa Ave Azusa CA, 91702

Canyon Christian Fellowship is a smaller church with a Sunday service at 9:30 a.m. and is attended by a congregation ranging from college students to the elderly. The church offers Wednesday night Bible studies to stay plugged in as well as an outreach program called Cory’s Kitchen on Monday nights, when volunteers help give back to the community.

Senior music and worship major Pat Eiwwongcharoen is a college-aged attendee who is happy to be involved with this church.

“The community and fellowship keeps me there, and I was asked to help with worship and have continued to go ever since. Something that keeps me there is probably the smaller size of the church and the easiness of being involved it’s hard to faciliatate that at bigger churches,” Eiwwongcharoen said.

Baseline Community Church (www.baselinecc.com)4552 N. Towne Ave. Claremont CA, 91711

Baseline Community Church has ministries and opportunities including work with children, youth, college students, adults and families. There are 3 different services starting at 8:00 a.m. 9:25 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Baseline Community’s program for university students provides a space for them to meet new people who are going through the same stresses of college.

Junior communication studies major Susanna Wood mentioned an event where Baseline Community Church met on a Sunday morning, but not for the usual worship and sermon, rather the church went out, volunteered and served in the town for the day.

“I like that the main focus of Baseline is to actually go out in the community and be the hands and feet of Jesus. Also the people here are so friendly and welcoming it makes me want to come back and continue to serve alongside them,” Wood said.

Faith Community Church of West Covina holds Sunday services at 8:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. It also offers online streaming of the service, one on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and another on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Faith Community has many ways to get connected, such as growth groups, youth ministries and Bible studies. The website shows the subject of the sermon for the week to keep the congregation informed on what to look for next.

“The pastor is down-to-earth,” said senior psychology major and Faith Community Church attendee Genesis Hampton said. “It is always a good service you can learn from.”

Whether you chose to get involved with a church that surrounds itself around volunteering, or one that has lots of different options for worship, there’s plenty of churches around the Azusa area that would love to welcome you in Sunday morning.
