What are the top candies trick-or-treaters should look out for and how are they ranked on a personal scale?

As the season of treats and cavities approaches, each person looks forward to one specific candy. No matter if it is chocolate, something sour, gummies or something else, there is always the candy that’s a keeper and there’s others that go straight to the trade or discard pile. Here are my top 10 Halloween candies.

  1. Starburst

There’s a debate on which Starburst is best: yellow, pink, red, or orange? I can only taste a very small difference in each, but I love the gummy texture of starbursts and how they’re small enough to carry in your pocket. This makes it not just a Halloween treat but an everyday one, which is why I ranked it lower on my scale.

  1. Snickers

Chocolate is just chocolate so that’s why it’s ranked lower on my list but Snickers are elite! KitKat’s, Hershey’s Chocolate, 100 Grand and Milky Way’s are good, they but aren’t the best of the bunch. What sets snickers apart from the rest is the crunch and caramel, making every bite heavenly!

  1. Smarties

I don’t know about you but I love smarties! Growing up teachers would hand them out telling us they’d make us smarter which may be part of the reason I love them. However, what I love most is the flavor. Each color has a different taste that you can actually taste unlike Starburst, but you can’t really binge eat them because after a few candies, they start to dissolve into a powder that gets stuck in your teeth.

  1. Blow Pops

I absolutely love lollipops and totally forgot about Blow Pops! The flavor in a lollipop is already super flavorful but what makes these better is the little gum surprise inside. My favorite is grape and sour apple! These are not to be confused with the Tootsie lollipops because those are not good.

  1. Lemon Heads

Do you remember the hard yellow sour sphere shaped candy? Those are Lemon Heads and as someone who loves sour candy, these are amazing! What is even better is the fact that they came out with a chewy version of them in small single serving boxes along with a few other flavors.

  1. Sour Punch Straws

These small little candies are awesome! The small sour gummy is a classic you receive trick or treating or at a birthday parties. The three flavors and colors I’ve seen are green, red,and blue, but with any sour candy when yellow isn’t an option, green is always second best.

  1. Skittles

Skittles are honestly a safe option if you are unsure of what candy to eat or deciding which one is your favorite, but for me, they’re a top favorite. These should honestly be close to the top on everyone’s list. Each little skittle is packed with flavor but of course, my favorite are the green and purple ones. This might just be a personal preference, but the sour verison of Skittles aren’t good in the slightest nor are the wild berry ones. Theyeither leave a nasty taste in my mouth or leave my mouth feeling itchy but you can always count on the originals.

  1. Sour Patch Kids

The only reason these aren’t ranked number one is because if I had to pick each in a sudden death, it wouldn’t be Sour Patch Kids. Eating a few is fine but eating just a few more can make you feel sick. I love gummies and sour candy so having these in a little candy is awesome. Again, this might just be me but I can’t do the watermelon version of Sour Patch Kids because they’re too overwhelming, but whatever floats your boat right?

  1. Peanut & Regular M&M’s

Whether or not you prefer the regular over the Peanut M&M’s, M&M’s are a safe option when choosing a favorite candy but are also very tasty. This is a very classic and popular candy you will for sure see being handed out or in stores year round.

  1. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Anything Reese’s is heaven! As a lover of peanut butter and chocolate, this candy is my all time favorite no matter the time of year. Some say the ratio of peanut butter to chocolate is off but I think it is perfect!
