The first introduction the world had to “Galentine’s Day” was in 2010 on an episode of NBC’s Parks and Recreation. Leslie, our beloved Amy Poehler, throws her annual Galentine’s Day party for her gal-pals on Valentine’s Day Eve. Although we are five years removed from its debut, Galentine’s Day feels like a fresh, new trend. Listen up ladies; Galentine’s Day is this Friday February, 13. Do you know what else is on Friday? A day off of school! What a sweet gift from APU’s administration and the Lord above.

If you don’t have your plans for Galentine’s Day already on lock-down, fear not. Below are some ideas to ensure that this year is your best Galentine’s Day EVER.

 

  1. Mani-Pedi Party: I know, I know, nothing is better than gong and getting a manicure and pedicure from your favorite nail spot, but I’m not made of money. I don’t have $30 to pay on groceries, let alone for someone to paint my nails. So, round up your girls and talk a stroll over to CVS, buy some new polish. Gather back at one person’s apartment, blast something on Spotify and paint away. Over the classic mani-pedi parties? Make it a competition for best nail art! Boom. Fun. You’re welcome.
  2. Homemade Pizza and Netflix Marathon: Trader Joes has delicious pre-made pizza doe for a great price. Buy a couple and the ingredients that you enjoy on pizza and make some cute heart-shaped pizzas with your girls! Then, invest in a new series on Netflix. If you’ve been living under a rock, Friends and Gilmore Girls are on Netflix now. That should be enough to satisfy any woman for at least three months, right?!
  3. Look for Less: Go onto Pinterest and find a ridiculously cute outfit. Then, grab some girl friends and hit the mall. Set a price limit on your look (like $20.00) and try to recreate the outfit that you chose. Everyone will have a different interpretation of the original outfit and it is always fun to see each person’s final product.

Bottom Line: Female friendships are worth cultivating and Galentine’s Day is the perfect day to be intentional about them!
