Dear Snapchat,
Up until recently, we saw you as a silly space-filler app in the ‘Social’ folder of our iPhones. Your main purpose was efficient selfie swapping between friends, a time passer in between classes.
Not anymore, Snapchat.
We would like to thank you for adding the ‘discover’ feature, helping Snapchat users explore news and media while waiting for people to update their stories.
You are helping to make news cool again, and we are forever grateful. You recognize that people do not always want to walk all the way to Starbucks to buy a newspaper. You have combined our love of CNN’s continuous updates with our guilty pleasure of People Magazine’s celebrity gossip.
Snapchat lovers everywhere are becoming news readers and we are becoming hopeful. This is an incredible combination of technology and social media and current events.
Maybe people will start captioning their pictures with fun National Geographic facts of the day. We can only hope.
