Every morning after waking up and rolling over, I clumsily drag each foot out of bed and in front of each other and make my way down the hall, often bumping into walls on the way. I walk into the kitchen and dart right into the corner for my french press and begin my day off right: with a cup of coffee.
I get a lot of backlash for the amount of coffee I drink, so I decided that I would learn a little bit about coffee. That way, even if it’s not good for me, I know what i’m getting myself into.
- The caffeine in coffee boosts energy levels.
- Coffee increases your metabolic rate, helping burn fat.
- It also increases adrenaline levels and helps improve physical performance.
- Coffee also includes nutrients such as riboflavin, pantothenic acid, manganese, potassium and magnesium.
- Studies also show that people who drink coffee have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
- Coffee also is said to protect against Alzheimer’s, lower the risk of stroke decrease the risk of some cancers and fight depression.
- Some people also say that coffee helps you live longer!
- It’s also jam-packed with antioxidants.
Despite coffee being known as such a good thing, there is some talk of negative results.
- Caffeine elevates heart rate and does have some effect on heart health.
- Stress is also said to increase when drinking caffeine, as it stimulates stress hormones.
- Caffeine also affects diabetics and hypoglycemics since it provides a spike in blood sugar.
- It also stops the absorption of some nutrients if you drink it too close to eating.
- There is said to be some additional problems associated with the male or female exclusively.
My favorite zero-calorie beverage still wins out for me. However, it’s important to remember that coffee is not zero calories when you add your cream and sugar. Adding 2 percent milk and sweetener in your favorite Starbucks grande coffee packs 110 calories!
So let this serve as a warning of the negative effects people see when it comes to coffee so that you may drink and sweeten responsibly.
