Where can new students expect to find the best food?
The start of a new semester has brought a lively atmosphere to the Azusa Pacific campus, with newcomers and returning students joining in. It has taken a few weeks for first-year students like myself to adjust to this fresh environment, including a new change in eating habits. I thought it would be fun to share my recent eating experiences on campus and rate the overall quality of the food. I also asked a few friends along the way for their own opinions.
I always get breakfast cereals with strawberries in the mornings because the foods are too heavy for my stomach to digest.
Then, since the West campus offers a broader selection of food than the East, I get Mexican food from the Grill, which consists of a protein-packed bowl with black beans, sour cream, guacamole, and veggies. However, the ingredients tend to be slightly cold and would be better if they were warmer, so overall, I rate the dish 4.5 out of 5 stars.
“I ate a California burger, which was very good. The ingredients were delicious and filled my stomach! The avocado and bacon make a good combination,” said freshman nursing student Ian Jin.
He ranked the California burger a 10/10, saying, “I would eat this every day, but I would get sick. However, it is my go-to meal after writing class.”
If you’re in the mood for a burger, consider ordering the California burger. Be sure to check out the Grill on the West campus due to the larger size of the burger compared to the East.
Freshman nursing student Minji Kim also usually eats burgers during the day. She uses the Grubhub app to order food from The Grill, Den Pizza, and Cougar’s Den Café every lunch. She loves getting together with her friends to share a meal and catch up on each other’s lives.
Minji gave the California burger from the West campus a 7 out of 10 rating. The reason for this rating is that sometimes the order gets delayed. However, she thinks the food is incredibly delicious, which might explain why. In her review, she highlighted the juiciness of the burger patty and mentioned that her favorite side from the menu is the seasoned waffle and sweet potato fries.
Juha Kim, a freshman nursing student, ate from both campuses, enjoying meals ranging from the 1899 Dining Hall on the East to The Grill on the West. Her favorite dishes included burgers, pizza, and chicken tenders.
She believes the best foods are ranked as follows: first, chicken tenders from The Grill; second, pizza from Den Pizza, third, burgers from The Grill, and lastly, dining hall food. She always goes for chicken tenders whenever she wants to eat at the Den or Grill. She thinks that chicken tenders are the most amazing food ever.
“If Chick-fil-A were closed, I would always order a chicken tender from Grubhub. [it’s] the best food ever!” said Kim.
Yerim Kim, a freshman, also sampled food from three campus dining options: the 1899 Dining Hall, The Grill, and the Den Pizza. Of those options, she particularly enjoyed the pizza and burgers because they served a hefty amount of food.
On her APU food tier list, she listed pizza as her top choice, followed by the dining hall, which she noted could vary depending on the daily menu, and in third place, she listed burgers.
“At first, when I ordered a pizza through Grubhub, my mind was blown when I had a taste. I love APU’s pizza!” she said.
With the new dining options on campus, finding an eating routine may be difficult. However, given the options available, there’s bound to be something for everyone to enjoy.
