Boba Fiend Tea House lands a popular spot in the Azusa area.

Boba Fiend Tea House (BFTH) on Alosta Ave. opened in early October, making a name for itself as a popular boba place. Featuring a wide variety of teas, coffees, slushies and smoothies, it’s the perfect go-to restaurant for a yummy treat.

BFTH originates from the Inland Empire, where the first house opened in Riverside in 2013. The company’s motto, “Are You Fiendin?,” is meant to lure customers into a fun and trendy environment perfect for college students. It prides itself on good customer service and quality drinks, two characteristics I noticed right away.

Immediately upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted with a warm welcome and an,“order whenever you’re ready.” Next to the register there were two large screens outlining the menu. BFTH also offers a menu on their website, making it easy for customers to scope out the options even before entering the restaurant.

The aesthetic of the boba shop gives customers a warm and relaxing experience. Compared to popular boba shops in the area like Cafe Bungalow or Boba Tea Lounge, BFTH is quieter and would be a great space for studying or working on homework.

BFTH offers a number of drinks fit for both boba lovers and haters. The selection varies from classic milk teas to specialty options originally crafted by the company. Customers will also find it helpful that they have the option to choose what percentage of sugar they would like in their drink. The sugar levels increase in 25% intervals from zero to one hundred.

Some of their wild and popular specialteas include the capri sun slush, trifecta and the jolly rancher slush. The capri sun slush is my favorite in this category. It features a tropical blend of strawberries, kiwis, green apples and peaches, perfect for a refreshing on-the-go beverage.

Another category of drinks BFTH serves are milk icees. Flavors include strawberry, chocolate, caramel and brown sugar. While simple, these milk icees offer a sweet, yummy blend, especially the brown sugar flavor. I added boba with mine and it was amazing.

Customers have the option to choose between ten different toppings: boba, egg pudding, lychee jelly, aloe vera, rainbow jelly, mango jelly, green apple jelly, passion fruit jelly and blended oreos. These toppings can be added to any drink and in case you forget about them, BFTH employees will ask what you’d like when ordering.

Prices at BFTH are considerably affordable given the large drink cup sizes available to choose from. There are three sizes: like, love and fiend. The like size, also known as a small, is 25 ounces, which is comparable to most medium and large sizes at boba shops. I ordered a small drink and it came out to $5.29. The price of medium and large sizes increase by 75 to 85 cents, respectively.

The cashier offered me a stamp card which can be marked every visit. Ten marks on the card mean that the individual can get a discounted drink, another fun and convenient aspect of the boba place.

As a college student, I appreciate how affordable BFTH is. I’m always looking to visit new food places, but it’s difficult on a college budget. This boba shop is a great option when you’re looking to try something new but don’t want to spend a lot of money. BFTH is also walking distance from both APU campuses and campus housing — making it accessible to those without cars.

I’m excited to make BFTH my new go-to boba shop. With its huge variety of options and its convenient location, it can become your favorite place too. Head over this week and try a funky flavor. You won’t regret it!
