Experience this taste of the town that features some of the most unique flavor combinations

How about some ice cream? From flavors like Black Olive Brittle and Goat Cheese to Bone Marrow with Bourbon Smoked Cherries, there is no question that your taste buds will be getting a run for their money at your next visit to Salt & Straw Ice Cream.

The dessert chain is commonly known for not shying away from some of the most interesting combination recipes that most would never think of using when it comes to a delectable treat.

Despite limited locations along the Pacific coast, Salt & Straw has gained the attention of national media and rounds the list of the top ten ice cream shops in America according to GQ Magazine. Since opening in Portland, Oregon in 2011, the company now has shops in Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles and Anaheim (Downtown Disney District) since October 2018, which means you can now conclude your long day at Disneyland by treating yourself to some authentic ice cream.

If you have been to one of those locations, chances are you will find their “classic” flavors differ by location, making you want to travel around to each shop. In addition to the classics, you can find new limited edition flavors introduced every month that are seasonally appropriate. Oh, and not to mention, malts, floats and waffle cones are offered to only complement the creamy goodness.

For Thanksgiving, look forward to a mix of salted caramel and turkey all in one scoop! Yes, salted, sweet and velvet caramel paired with savory turkey. Although the two ingredients sound like they should never be married, it will indeed change your life. During the Christmas season, a twist on cookie dough is influenced by gingerbread dough and will give you a food revelation when it comes to a childhood palate. The month of love gets even more romantic with their “Chocolatier Series” featuring limited edition chocolate flavors. The Eclipse’s Cardamon Rose Chocolate flavor that has rose water, spiced sweet cream and cocoa nibs is indeed a February favorite. In March, we can look forward to the Pots of Gold & Rainbows flavor (a classic flavor at the Anaheim location) taking you back to Saturday morning cartoons and big bowls of Lucky Charms.

If you’re a huge fan of the monthly editions, the Seasonal Pints Club is a dream come true as you can sign up for seasonal flavors to be delivered straight to your door. If you are not part of the club, you can still take advantage of their home delivery service of classic flavors and newly added Postmates service in Los Angeles.

But what else is interesting? Each location offers free unlimited samples of every flavor which allows you to decide for yourself whether Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper should be a legitimate recipe for ice cream.  Although not pressured, it is definitely encouraged to try all of the flavors because you never know what you might discover! The Larchmont location is known for offering the “Thirteen Flavor Journey” to those who have never been to Salt & Straw. And to top it all off, vegan options and sorbets (depending on location and time of the year) are also available. According to their website, every product used in their ice cream is purchased locally to help create stronger local economies, which would explain why flavors rotate and differ by location. But generally, consider experiencing a taste of Oregon when you go to purchase your next scoop.

Although the company is celebrating its eighth anniversary this year, it continues to gain tract within the community of foodies with sweet tooths. With shops in six cities and ordering made available online, it is impossible to miss out on a taste flight of a lifetime.
