Things to do this Valentine’s Day in the greater Azusa area

Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, I decided to check out local places you can enjoy with your significant other or gal pals on this year’s special day of love. From unique dessert concoctions to mani pedis, here are some of my favorite things that I recommend you do this Valentine’s Day.

If Paris’s removal of the Pont des Arts famous “love locks” was a crushing realization, fear not! Pasadena is offering its own opportunity for confessions of love in the form of red and pink paper hearts.

The “One Colorado Heart Strings” event by One Colorado mall will pose as a creative way for lovers to express their affection this Valentine’s Day.

Pen poetic notions for your main squeeze on a heart [and] attach it to the strings. Propose marriage. Profess your feelings to your secret crush. Don’t be shy. Write, show and share your love,” reads the event description.

That’s not all.

Get ready for your night to get even more romantic! An available “kissing booth” will enable lovers to immortalize their night with each other. There will also be a strolling accordionist walking around, serenading onlookers (if accordion music is your thing).

After a night in Pasadena, swing by iPic Theaters for a relaxing upscale cinema movie date that offers in-theater food and drinks. All this goodness is located in Downtown Pasadena at One Colorado 41 Hugus Alley Pasadena, CA 91103 on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 9:00 p.m.

When the winter season rolls around, pine, peppermint and cinnamon scents fill many homes. Yet by the time Christmas is over, all the holiday smells have disappeared into storage. Well, you can keep your house smelling fresh and festive by creating your own Valentine’s Day candle! Banter and Bliss Candle Co. has teamed up with We Olive to offer a candle-making workshop class.

Even better, the candles are lotion candles. After they completely burn you can actually use the oil as a warm body moisturizer.

The event takes place on Valentine’s Day from 7-9 p.m. in Pasadena. Each $55 tickets includes (for those 21 and over) a glass of wine, courtesy of We Olive, a nine ounce lotion candle, a single red rose and a six pack of liquor infused cake pops from Drunken Cake Pops. The hour and a half class will give you plenty of time to bond with your partner and enjoy the act of creating something together.

If you wish to spend this Valentine’s Day pampering yourself, there is no better way to do that than by getting a mani pedi! Go solo, with your best friend or significant other to get your nails done. Jojo Nails is a full service luxury nail salon, located at 604 W. Route 66, just a short drive away from Azusa Pacific’s East Campus. The extravagant interior — consisting of chandeliers and gold-accented decor — will make you feel like royalty. The elegant atmosphere carries over to the quality of care that each customer receives. I had my first manicure there last week and I was not disappointed. The customer service was outstanding and the overall experience was relaxing, all for a reasonable price.

For Starbucks lovers, during this season of romance, you can expect to find special goodies on Starbucks’ 2019 Valentine’s Day menu. APU’s Starbucks menu offers heart shaped cookies covered with white chocolate and sprinkles. There are also brownie flavored cake pops filled with white and milk chocolate chips covered in red fondant and white hearts. For espresso fanatics, Starbucks brought back their popular limited time Cherry Mocha and Cherry Mocha Frappuccino, so get it while you can! This chocolate and cherry concoction will have you falling head over heels in love.

If you ask me, getting chocolate covered strawberries for your loved one for Valentine’s Day is overrated.

Instead, maybe try a couples baking class.

Duff’s Cakemix is hosting a Valentine’s Decorating Date Night in Pasadena on Feb. 14 from 7-9 p.m. The tickets are $60 each, but one ticket covers two guests, so bring a boyfriend, girlfriend or best friend!

The ticket includes: one cake kit to share, with all the tools, ingredients and supplies necessary to create a stellar cake, a raffle entry and games to play throughout the night. The event will last for approximately two hours (but time flies when you’re in love).

Tickets can be purchased here.

This completes my compilation of Valentine’s Day ideas! All in all, whether you choose one of these on Valentine’s Day or can somehow miraculously do all of them, as long as you are spending it with someone you love, the day will be perfect.
