Like many other college students, I spent quite of a bit of my free time watching shows on Netflix. I have hopped from “New Girl” and “Grey’s Anatomy” to “House of Cards.” Listen to me very closely, “House of Cards” is a remarkable television show, but it is not for the faint of heart (or children).
The dynamic of the show is one that you will rarely come across on your typical Netflix binge. Frank Underwood, the House Majority Whip
in Congress (Democrat), is the main character of the series paired with his elegant wife Claire. The two initially appear as protagonists, but as the seasons progress, you will quickly realize they are the antagonists in their own story. Strange, I know.
The power-hungry Underwoods are dirty people who know how to cover their tracks, and that in itself is a huge aspect to the show. Frank Underwood uses his impeccable lying abilities to work his way up the political chain, and he has people that will do all of his dirty work for him, leaving him “blameless.”
Many people compare Frank and Claire’s marriage to Bill and Hillary Clinton’s. Some would say that both marriages are strictly business, centered around a successful political partnership. It is apparent that Frank and Claire love each other, but their relationship in no way resembles a mainstream marriage.
If you are at all interested in politics, American government or scandal, watch “House of Cards.” Once you begin, there is no stopping until it’s over.
