Azusa Pacific women’s basketball had trouble from the field with its lowest shooting percentage of the season (28.1) in the 68-48 loss to California Baptist in Riverside Saturday night.

The Lancers jumped out to a 10-point lead midway through the first period, entering halftime up 28-21. The Cougars could not overcome the deficit, scoring just 27 second-half points to the Lancers’ 40.

CBU shot 58.6 percent in the final period, making it 49.1 percent for the game. APU scored just 10 points off 20 Lancer turnovers.

Junior forward Miriam Zabinsky led the Cougars with 12 points and sophomore Maggie Dumphy contributed 10 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard Cydnie Jones tabbed five steals in the game.

The Lancers’ Courtney Nelson led the game with 20 points, adding four assists and eight rebounds. Teammate Cassidy Mihalko followed with 16 points, hitting 4-of-6 from behind the arc.

The Cougars fall to 14-8 overall (10-5 PacWest) and will host BYU-Hawai’i Feb. 12.
