Baseball (5-2)

Home-field advantage could not have been more applicable for Azusa Pacific and Cal Poly Pomona in their split of this weekend’s series.

Daniel Martin’s 10th inning walk-off single sealed the Cougars’ 2-1 victory over the Broncos at home Friday before traveling the short distance to Cal Poly on Saturday, dropping the second game 5-3.

APU will travel to St. George, Utah, for a three-game series against Montana State Billings on Monday and Tuesday.

Softball (4-5)

APU softball competed at the Desert Stinger Tournament in Las Vegas this weekend, finishing 2-3.

The Cougars opened Friday with an 11-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills before dropping games to Cal State Monterey Bay (11-0, five innings) and Saint Martin’s (13-4, five innings) that afternoon. They opened the second day with another win over Simon Fraser (12-6), but did not advance further after losing to Minot State 6-4.

The team will return home to host Adelphi in a doubleheader Tuesday.

Water Polo (4-7)

Women’s water polo dropped three games to ranked teams in Davis, California, this weekend. The Cougars lost Friday’s matchup 15-8 to 11th-ranked UC San Diego and Saturday’s games to No. 4 California (24-4) and No. 16 UC Davis (14-7).

The team will have two weeks of preparation for a four-game series Feb. 27-28.

Women’s Tennis (2-2) and Men’s Tennis (2-1)

The women’s tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over Vanguard at home Saturday while the men’s team struggled against the Lions, losing 5-4.

Track and Field

The Cougars competed this weekend at the NAU Invitational and UW Indoor Invitational (distance). Staci Foster broke a school record with her 4:46.73 mile time at UW.
