Soon, but not soon enough, the game Flappy Bird may be back in the app stores. The creator, Dong Nguyen, states he may be putting the game back in the App store but does not state when. Nguyen makes this clear in response to a tweet asking about the game’s return to the App store. Nguyen replies, “Yes, but not soon,” according to Laptop Magazine.
Flappy Bird may seem like a simple game, but asking people who played gives a complete different story. Descriptions such as frustrating, addicting, and “I need to beat my high score” are just a few of the words used for this game. Flappy Bird involves a small bird that flies through air by tapping and holding the screen. The game brings difficulty by adding tubes the bird flies through. The more tubes the bird goes through, the higher the score and the more addiction to get a higher score.
The game as downloadable for both Android and IOS and as a major hit when it first came out on the App and Play Store. It saw more than 50 million downloads and made Nguyen about $50,000 a day. Unfortunately the game was taken down in February 2014 “citing ruined lives (including his),” according to Laptop Magazine.
Nothing is known about why the game might be making a comeback and maybe the previous income has something to do with it or the demands and questions of bringing it back. Regardless, the game made a huge impact on his audience. SO much so that alternatives were made.
Many alternatives include Flying Cyrus, which includes a flying Miley Cyrus head navigating through wreaking balls, or Fall Out Bird, which is inspired by the band Fall Out Boy and includes the band member’s heads navigating through guitars. All of these having the same concept as the original Flappy Bird.
If audiences do not enjoy the alternatives as much as the original, they may have something to look forward to in the future.
