With its demanding presence and Spanish-style architecture, Urth Caffé’s newest location near Old Town Pasadena attracts attention from all angles. As the massive building sits on the corner of East Colorado and Madison Blvd, passersby tend to not only admire it from afar, but also venture in, as a way to satisfy both their hunger and curiosity.

Although this Vegan-friendly café occupies West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Downtown L.A., its addition to Pasadena, which opened on Sept. 2, finally gives residents – within the immediate San Gabriel Valley – a chance to enjoy its specialties as well.

Best known for its organic coffees and fine teas, Urth boasts a wide variety of drinks. Ranging from Special Coffee House Blends such as its “Manhattan Mudd,” to its Herbal Infusion Teas like, “Cranberry Spice,” and “Lavender Lemonade,” the majority of its products are trademarked.

Though “Caffé” is part of its name, Urth also contains an extensive menu of delectable breakfast dishes, lunch specials, baked goods and desserts to accompany its aforementioned thirst quenchers.

If you need breakfast to-go: Urth Caffé opens every morning at 6 am, ready to provide its customers’ with the most important meal of the day. From “Omelets & Scrambles” to “Breakfast Favorites” like the “Classic Belgian Waffle” and “Berry Bowl,” Urth presents a mouth-watering collection of sunrise staples for around $5-$15 (plus tax). It is important to note, Urth only serves breakfast until 1:00 pm on weekdays and 2:00 pm on weekends.

Must Try – “The Sausage & Potato Omelet” Three organic eggs with spicy-chicken sausage, heirloom potatoes, bell peppers, onions and chopped parsley for $9.95+

If you desire lunch: Thankfully Urth’s lunch items are served until closing, which is 11 pm every night. Along with its “Signature Sandwiches” such as the “Caprese,” the “New Yorker” and the “Turkey Burger,” all priced between $12-$16, there are also a number of salads, grilled Panini’s and pizzas available from $10 and up.

Must Try – “The Urth Salad” Locally grown mixed greens, feta cheese, Roma tomatoes, hearts of palm, garbanzo beans, Kalamata olives (with pits), and pine nuts. Mixed in Urth vinaigrette dressing, with fresh bread on the side. Comes in a half order for $9.95 and a full order for $12.50+

If you crave a sweet treat: Urth Caffé is no stranger to sensational goods. There are its “Exquisite Cakes,” “Famous Cheesecakes” and “Fresh Baked Classic Cookies.” Just the thought of these desserts is enough to make anyone start salivating.

Must Try – “Victory Vegan Pumpkin Pie” Regardless of its seasonal presence, this egg and dairy free (DF) confection is made with DF granola crust topped with DF a pumpkin filling. Get a slice for $5.25+

 

What started out as a mail-order company, selling natural and organic products for the home, quickly evolved in what is now, Urth Caffé. Established in 1989 by Shallom and Jilla Berkman, Urth inadvertently became America’s first exclusively, organic coffee company.

Since its first location opened in 1994, on Melrose Avenue, Urth has won many awards including: “Best Environmental Coffee House” by Coffee and Cuisine Magazine, “#1 Coffee Restaurant in Los Angeles” from Los Angeles Magazine and “Best Caffe Latte in all of L.A.” by the Los Angeles Times.

Described on its website as a place that “touches hearts, minds and taste buds of its loyal patrons through its cuisine with a conscious philosophy,” Urth Caffé’s pleasant atmosphere and bounty of organic products promise an experience worth having.
