Looking back at the 2023 movies, we saw both great movies and great flops. What movies are coming soon and will they top 2023?

2023 was a year of great movies. We got to see movies like “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “John Wick: Chapter 4.” Not only did these movies do amazing in box office sales but were all around great! It truly makes you wonder how 2024 movies will top last year.

In 2024, we can expect to see some new movies and sequels we have been patiently waiting for! Some movies listed below have been advertised but others I haven’t heard anything about just yet. According to Rotten Tomatoes, here are the highly anticipated movies we can expect this year.

Sequels can either be a hit or miss but it seems like 2024 is going to be a year where we get quite a few of them.

“Inside Out 2,” “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” “Joker: Folie à Deux,” “Despicable Me 4,” “Dune 2,” “Venom 3” and “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” are all continued films or prequels we can expect this year.

Personally, I am excited for “Inside Out 2,” “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” “Joker: Folie à Deux” and “Despicable Me 4.” You can’t pass up a good animation, especially if it is a classic you grew up with or just an all-around great film like “Despicable Me” or “Inside Out.” Watching the newest animated Spider-Man that came out in 2023 and being left on a cliffhanger left me and other fans wanting to know what comes next.

Thriller or suspense isn’t my favorite genre to watch but sometimes I just can’t help myself. “The Joker” was a great movie that left me with many gut-sinking feelings but overall, it was such a great movie so when I saw that a sequel was coming soon I got a little excited. However, after seeing that it would be a musical with the great Lady Gaga, my interest was even more intrigued. The ones left on the list above that weren’t mentioned were because I haven’t seen the previous movies but know of them. I have a list of movies that have been recommended to me since mid-2022 but haven’t gotten around to watching them.

We will also be getting some new films like “Wicked Part 1,” “Argyle” and “The Fall Guy.” While I just recently saw trailers about these films, “Wicked” has always been on my bucket list to watch on Broadway but now I don’t have to travel from the West to the East Coast when I can see it at my local movie theater. While this one won’t star Idina Menzel, it will feature Ariana Grande which will be pretty interesting to see her acting side as opposed to her normal singing side.

“Argyle” and “The Fall Guy” are action movies that I personally haven’t seen the trailers for until now. “Argyle” seems like it is all over the place which are usually movies I have a hard time keeping up with, jumping from idea to idea doesn’t win me over but seems like a cool plot.

“The Fall Guy” is for sure one I am going to put on my must-see list for 2024. After his role in “Barbie,” Ryan Gosling flips the script and plays a stuntman who had relations with the director played by Emily Blunt, but they have to put aside their differences and play nice to find out who murdered the star of the movie they are making. Romance, comedy and action all in one is my kind of movie!

While some of these peak my interest, others do not. Regardless of taste, these seem to be interesting, creative films that will for sure bring traffic to theaters.
