Volleyball has not lost a single set so far this regular season, defeating Holy Names and Academy of Art this weekend

Azusa Pacific’s volleyball squad has won their first three conference matches of the season, without dropping a single set. The Cougars are taking on tough opponents and never looking back as they continue to dominate on the court.

Over the weekend, APU demonstrated their powerful style of play against two conference foes, defeating Holy Names 25-22, 25-9, 25-13, and Academy of Art 25-13, 25-16 and 25-12.

On Friday, the Cougars traveled to Oakland to take on Holy Names, who came into this match with a 1-3 record but were coming off a win against Dominican. Holy Names came into their match riding an 11-game losing streak against the Cougars dating back to November 2012. In fact, Holy Names has failed to win a set against APU since November 2015.

This match was more of the same as APU cruised to a win. Senior Julianne Miller led the Cougars with 14 kills while junior Mina Andjelkovic tallied 31 assists in support.

On Saturday, the Cougars took a quick trip over to San Francisco continuing their road trip against Academy of Art. Similar to APU’s history with Holy Names, APU has dominated play against Academy of Art; the Cougars have not lost a single set to them since September 2016.

Academy of Art came into the match with an even 2-2 record. They looked to rebound against APU, but the Cougars had something different in mind.

APU surrendered the first two points of the first set but responded with nine straight points of their own, cruising to a first set victory. The Cougars never looked back, going on to defeat Academy of Art in straight sets.

Freshman Annaka Jorgenson led the way in kills with 11, and Andjelkovic continued her terrific play in the assists category with 32.

The Cougars will face the Concordia Eagles on Thursday at 7 p.m in Irvine, before opening the volleyball portion of the Cornerstone Cup against rival Biola on Saturday at 3 p.m in the Felix Event Center.
