Abigail Wiet saved her best for last. The freshman qualified for the NCAA championship meet on two school records, one in the 200-yard back stoke and one in the 400-yard individual medley (IM).

At the meet, the freshman earned appearances in the ‘B’ finals by placing 15th in each event durng the preliminary races. From there, the freshman kicked it up a notch. Wiet broke her own school record in the 400-yard IM with a 4:24.48, breaking her previous record by over six seconds. The time placed her 11th in the event.

In the 200-yard backstroke, she led wire to wire to set a school record time of 2:00.93 and win the ‘B’ final.

“When she got here, I think the level of competition lifted her competitive level,” said head coach Tim Kyle.

The freshman earned the Cougars 15 team points, placing APU 31st.
