Love is in the air! Valentine’s Day is coming up soon, and there will be chocolates, flowers and love galore! But what about the rest of us? The ones who don’t have a “ring by spring?”

Leading up to it, Valentine’s Day has been a painful reminder that those of us who are single, are single. But it’s okay, because there are plenty of things that singles can do to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Throw A Party

Senior applied health major Amanda Ratner recalls attending a party that celebrated singleness.

“Galentines day! Or, [a friend] threw us a V-alone-tines party when we were single. I just remember the bowl of Swedish fish that said “out of all the fish in the sea, I’m still alone,” Ratner said.

At these parties, you do everything couples do on dates but with your friends. Popular activities including eating plenty of junk food and watching romance movies so you can live vicariously through the characters.

Movie Ticket for One

Contrary to popular belief, going to the movies alone is not bad. If you’re the type of person that loves watching movies in theaters, then you’re in luck. According to Flixster, movies coming out the week of Valentine’s Day along with “Deadpool,” include “Zoolander 2” and “How To Be Single.” This batch of movies is a mixture of action and comedy, so there is sure to be something that everyone will enjoy. And conveniently, Foothill Cinema 10 is located in the shopping area right across APU.

Eat Your Feelings

Along with the movie that most will include in their V-alone-tine’s Day, food is a must. Most singles choose to stay in and order pizza, but if you’re looking to go out despite the fact that you will probably be eating among couples on dates, there are plenty of eateries within walking distance of the campus.

According to Yelp, the shopping area right across from APU has small restaurants where you can easily order to-go and bring dinner back to your dorm. The most frequented places include Panda Express, The Habit, and Honey Roll & Sushi. And of course, right on the other side there’s Chick-fil-A, and you can never go wrong there.

Or, walk a bit farther past the delicious Yogurtland, and behold, a Pieology Pizzeria. No need to order cheap cheese pizzas—customize your own by walking a mere 0.2 miles. If you don’t like these either, Yelp is also available for free download for you to do your own research.

Friendship Is Love, Too

Just remember fellow singles, Valentine’s Day isn’t just a day for those in love. It’s for those who love each other. Friendships should be celebrated as well. Don’t spend Valentine’s Day alone, be alone with others. Eat junk food and watch Netflix. Do what you love even if it means going to the gym, taking the MetroLink to Downtown L.A., or going to a concert on a homework night.

Everyone with a someone is thinking of that someone. But for you singles out there, be selfish and think about you.
