This Thanksgiving weekend a distant continuation of Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky movie series Creed was released in theaters on Friday. The film stars Michael B. Jordan as the main character Adonis Creed who, if you follow the Rocky movies, is the son of Apollo Creed, who was one of Rocky’s opponents and friend who later died in the ring against Ivan Drago. Of course Sylvester Stallone also stars as Rocky Balboa himself. The movie generated enough attraction to make it on the box office list as third place right behind The Good Dinosaur and Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 which came in at number one. The film is expected to reach about 42 million dollars by the end of the first week. Creed was well developed and carried out. It was interesting and captured the attention of the audience to where it almost created the illusion that the audience was part of the movie.

Creed is exciting and realistic with scenes that make you feel like you know the characters on a personal level. The movie did well by incorporating current professional boxers as well as well-known boxing commentators to create the illusion that the setting was current. The movie was well balanced with scenes that created an impactful emotional appeal. Creed was engaging enough to get almost everyone in the sold out theater to react out loud with gasps and claps to the action that was displayed on the screen. It left many people chatting amongst themselves that this might be the start of a new Era of rocky movies: Creed edition. The main reason behind that theory is that Rocky is still alive and working in Creed’s corner.

Creed seemed to have the audience engaged by the sounds of the audible reactions from the audience during the film. Some moments were filled with excitement that some even began to encourage Adonis Creed as if the bouts that he was fighting were live. Boxing fans were recognized when they reacted with “awwws” as they acknowledged professional boxers Tony Bellew, Gabriel Rosado, and Andre Ward appear in different scenes of the film. The same “awwws” were present when Rocky first appeared and when pictures of Apollo Creed vs Rocky Balboa were displayed as it was heartwarming to see flashbacks of the original Rocky movies.

American film and screenwriter Ryan Coogler really knocked this film out of the ring. It is a film that does not even allow you to have the desire to check your phone for messages because of how engaging it is. It is a movie that I would look forward to seeing a part two of.
