The APU baseball team’s bats fell silent in a trip to face PacWest foe Holy Names. The Cougs lost 3 of 4 to the Hawks, and only mustered six runs between the four games. The squad had been the best offensive team in the conference for much of the season, and it was a costly time for the Cougars to lose their offensive spark, as they drop to 15-9 in conference.

Conference Standings

The top of the conference has gotten very competitive. Dixie State still sits atop the standings after losing 3 of four to California Baptist, but Point Loma has won 17 straight and CBU is now comfortably in third in the conference. APU falls to fourth place in the PacWest standings. The Cougars do have the luxury of games remaining against CBU and Dixie State, but losing 3 to bottom dweller Holy Names will almost certainly hinder the Cougars’ chances at winning a conference title. Now, the Cougars will be fighting to make the West Regional tournament.
