It’s been a big year for Azusa Pacific men’s basketball.
A 24-4 regular season record. The first conference title since 2006. PacWest Freshman of the Year. PacWest Player of the Year. PacWest Coach of the Year. A consistent spot on the Division II national coaches’ poll. All in their first season as full-fledged NCAA members.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
The Cougars now turn their focus to the NCAA West Regional tournament as the No. 1 seed.
Azusa Pacific has met six of the seven of the other teams at least once this season. Of those six, the Cougars have defeated five — including the CCAA and GNAC regular season champions, Chico State and Western Oregon.
They’ll also have home court advantage as the tournament host.
The Cougars are set to play No. 8 Western Oregon on Friday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m.
If they advance, they’ll play the winner of No. 4 Dixie State vs. No. 5 Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday.
The championship game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16.
