Azusa Pacific Unversity’s football team clinched its second straight Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship Saturday with its eighth straight win, a 21-6 victory over Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Senior runningback Terrell Watson ran for 128 yards in the game, including a 55-yard dash that ended in a touchdown for the Cougars near the end of the fourth quarter. That run broke his own records in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in a season. He has a total of 1,815 rushing yards this season, which places him as the second leading rusher in college football across divisions.

Watson scored the first points of the game with a five-yard run in the second quarter. APU’s Ethan Zeidler scored with 17 seconds left in that quarter on a 28-yard pass from quarterback Chad Jeffries. Simon Fraser got its only score of the game near the end of the third quarter with a touchdown by D’Entremont. However, the extra-point attempt failed.

With the victory, APU’s record improved to 9-1 overall, 6-0 in conference. The team has won 13 straight conference games. Simon Fraser’s record dropped to 2-8 for the season, 2-4 in conference.

Azusa Pacific returns home for its final game of the season against non-conference team Menlo Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. at Citrus Stadium.
