Azusa Pacific could not find an equalizer in Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Hawaii Pacific.

After a scoreless first half, Hawaii Pacific’s Brais Garcia finished a free kick from teammate Erik Kemsies with a header into the back of the net in the 51st minute.

Despite nine shot attempts, four of which placed on frame, the Cougars couldn’t score.

“It’s difficult to play after a long travel, so they weren’t quite as sharp as usual,” said head coach Dave Blomquist. “I was really pleased with the competitive drive the guys had. They fought until the very end.”

With the loss, Azusa Pacific drops to 1-1 in conference and 4-2 overall.

“I’m looking forward to Hilo and putting together that competitive drive with a little more quality and focus on the little things,” Blomquist said.

Three games remain on the team’s Hawaiian road trip. Play will resume Monday, Oct. 6 at Hawaii Hilo.
