Azusa Pacific’s football team has been virtually unstoppable this year, rolling to a sixth straight win Saturday afternoon at South Dakota Mines, 52-30.

The Cougars’ only loss this season came against Humboldt State in their second game of the year, but it was avenged four weeks later with a 55-21 rout. APU is undefeated in conference.

Senior running back Terrell Watson ran for 206 yards and scored three times on Saturday. He leads the entire NCAA in rushing yards with 1,485 on the season.

Junior wide receiver Tanner Henry led off the scoring for APU by scoring on a 36-yard pass from freshman quarterback Chad Jeffries with 13:01 left in the first quarter. South Dakota Mines got its first score with a field goal four minutes later. Just before the end of the first quarter, sophomore cornerback Tyree Davis scored on a 65-yard punt return to bring the score to 14-3 Cougars.

In the second quarter, both teams scored 21 points. APU got two touchdowns from junior wide receiver Blake Robertson as well as Watson’s first of the day.

In the third quarter, the only score for either team was a field goal by APU’s junior kicker Jamie Cacciatore.

In the final quarter, South Dakota managed two field goals, but Watson scored twice more, which allowed the Cougars to take the 52-30 victory.

APU had 509 total offensive yards, while South Dakota had 650. Jeffries was 12-for-22 in passing with 251 total yards.

The Cougars return home to face Western Oregon at 6 p.m. on Nov. 1 at Citrus Stadium. APU finishes conference play at Simon Fraser Nov. 8 before ending the regular season at home Nov. 15 against Menlo.
