UC San Diego came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Azusa Pacific 2-1 in double overtime on Thursday.

After combing for 12 first-half shots, Azusa finally opened scoring in the 74th minute. Junior Mayra Almazan finished a cross from sophomore Lindsay Ryals in close range, giving the Cougars their first goal of the season.

The Tritons, however, rallied to tie the game only nine minutes later as Sophia Hyver finished Jordyn McNutt’s corner kick with a header into the back of the net.

Despite an aggressive performance in the offensive third with the only three shots taken in the first period of overtime, the Cougars found no luck trying for a second goal.

Izzy Pozurama delivered the Triton’s winning score just a little over a minute into the second overtime period, sealing the team’s first win of the season.

The Cougars, now 0-4, will travel to Carson, California, Wednesday in a non-conference matchup against Division II opponent Cal State Dominguez Hills.
