Collide magazine has won the Award of Excellence (first place) for campus publications from the Evangelical Press Association. The Clause received an Award of Merit, given to outlets with superior performance. The other publications receiving the Award of Merit were student news outlets from Liberty University, Corban University and University of Northwestern-St. Paul.

This marks the first time an APU student publication has taken home a national award. “It means a lot to be recognized for the hard work that the editors, writers and previous staffs have put into this publication,” said Collide Editor in Chief Arielle Dreher. “Magazine journalism is not a dying breed, and I think that other college campuses should consider this outlet for journalism in order to collaborate with on-campus artists, writers and photographers. I am honored to have led such a wonderful publication, and I am grateful to APU for allowing us to practice magazine journalism on-campus.”

Collide adviser Kyle Huckins congratulated Dreher and the rest of the magazine’s student team. “To have Collide named best in the nation is a great honor, and one coming after major strides in content, presentation and design,” he said. “The group working on the magazine this year incorporated journalistic excellence and spirituality to make a truly ‘God first’ publication.”

Huckins also saluted The Clause, which earlier in the spring took home three regional awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the first time the newspaper had won the prestigious honors.
