A brush fire is currently blazing in Glendora within plain view of campus, leading to mandatory evacuations for some residents and delays on Foothill Blvd.

Colby Fire was first reported just before 6 a.m. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for areas west of Glendora Blvd. and north of Sierra Madre Ave., according to various news reports.

By 7:45 a.m. the Los Angeles County Fire Department tweeted that the brush fire had grown to 125 acres.

Citrus College, located directly next to APU’s East Campus, has cancelled classes for the day. Terry Meyer, interim chief of APU Campus Safety, issued a school-wide email around 8:34 a.m. announcing that classes would continue as usual, and advising athletes to check with their coaches for updates on practices and outdoor activities. Meyer also advised students to stay indoors, if possible.

UPDATE 10:15 a.m.: The fire has burned about 1,700 acres, according to the L.A. County Fire Department. Meyer issued another email that said the APU campus remains a safe distance away.
