Students danced the night away and met their favorite celebrities Friday night at Hollywood’s Madame Tussauds wax museum for the annual girl-ask-guy dance.
All three floors of the building were reserved exclusively for APU students until midnight. The first level was the entrance for guests with a red carpet rolled out and a warm welcome from Marilyn Monroe at the end. The second level had a flow of students throughout the night taking photos with movie characters, athletes, singers, actors and directors. The rooftop was the dance floor that over looked Hollywood and served as the hangout spot for stars like Will Smith, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Rihanna — their wax versions, of course.
A normal entry fee to the museum is around $28, while paying for entrance online costs almost $20. Les Femmes tickets sold for $20 each.
“The value of the dance is extremely high because you get to cruise around the museum for four hours, we’ll be having a dance, serving refreshments, and some of the restaurants we made deals with should validate your parking,” said Tim Youngdale, a senior business marketing major and campus life intern for the Office of Communiversity.
Les Femmes has previously been held at The Queen Mary and Icon LA Ultra Lounge. This year, 900 students bought tickets and the dance quickly became a sold-out event by Monday, Nov. 18.
“We wanted somewhere in an area students would want to go to, and somewhere with lots of other options for entertainment, other than dancing. We recognize that not all students love to dance the entire time, so having somewhere that there were other things to experience was important to us,” said Melissa Stava, an associate director for Communiversity.
This year, some ladies got quite creative in asking their dates to the dance. One in particular gathered some film majors to make a short movie clip to ask her date. The YouTube video titled “Morgan asks Zach: Les Femmes 2013,” successfully won over her date.
“I had a ton of ideas of how I wanted to ask him, and wanted to make it really awesome and I wanted to make fun of all the ideas I had. I love doing things through the arts and I liked how it turned out,” said junior theater major Morgan Reynolds.
Some decided that instead of asking a date, they would go with friends.
“We didn’t really want to have dates this year, so we just figured it we would make a hall bonding experience out of it,” freshman psychology major Taylor Solano said. “Being in Hollywood was great, and since a lot of our hallmates are from out of state, it was cool to have that experience for them. I had never been to a wax museum before, so it was cool to dance in it, be dressed up and take pictures with people like Beyoncé.”
